I recently completed a commission for the Autumn Issue of the lovely The Covent Gardener magazine. The brief was to illustrate an article on how the inspiring Trevor Sorbie MBE is using his scissor skills to help people in their fight against cancer. I was delighted to be able to contribute to such an inspirational and moving article. We decided on an appropriate wig theme, which meant that I got to snip away, merry in the irony that I’m a ‘Barber’, cutting hair… of the paper variety! Ironic or WHAT! I absolutely loved this brief and I’m so excited to share the finished illustration with you below! Scroll down to find the first draft and some ‘in the making’ snaps from the studio too. You’ll see from my sketchbook that in the initial design, the heads are stood on striped red and white boxes. These were dropped as the design developed as I felt they detracted from the detail of the mannequin heads and props. I still wanted to incorporate the iconic ‘hairdresser red’, so I added this in as a bold and eye catching backdrop instead. Another crazy exciting thing I should mention about this issue of The Covent Gardener is that the cover was illustrated by THE Sir Quentin Blake!… and what a striking and vibrant treat it is! I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I’m super excited to share this personal project with you all! Kate Spade and Magnolia Bakery have collaborated to create a limited-edition collection of totes, bags, and clutches inspired by the iconic Manhattan cake shop. KS handbags and cupcakes… This was only ever going to be a recipe for amazingness! I’ve been meaning to add some more three-dimensional work to my portfolio… so here it is! I’ve called the little paper patisserie ‘Cake Spade’ (get it?!) Can you spot the scrummy cross-body cupcake bag in the window?!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! x
Even though the festive period feels many moons ago now, I hope you don’t mind me sharing the poster I illustrated for the January issue of the lovely Practical Pre-School Magazine! I was commissioned to illustrate an A3 poster for the centre-fold around the title ‘I love shiny things’. I had so much fun working on this playful brief!… Scroll down to see my very first draft… to the final product!
Jolly excited to share a new project I’ve been working on with you! Cawston Press make the scrummiest fruit and vegetable pressed juices using only natural ingredients. If you haven’t tried them yet… you need to! You can find them here. Here’s a fabulously fruity papercut illustration I made! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by x
For Mothers Day I got my wonderful mum a years subscription to her absolute favourite magazine Good Housekeeping. I posted this to her along with the little papercut illustration I made below, featuring mother engrossed in her new mag et pooch!
